The WOW Project
There are SO many wonderful animal rescue organisations and charities in South Africa that it would take me forever to list them all. I have supported numerous rescue organisations in the past (and will continue to do so), but I’ve decided to make The WOW Project the main beneficiary of my support and am dedicated to doing what I can to assist their founder, Kerry Kleinhans with her motto of “Making a Difference, One Animal at a time.”
I met Kerry, one fateful day, at Hakuna Matata Vet, when owner, Dr Kiki Schneider introduced me to her as someone who could help her with printing t-shirts, etc. Now, I won’t lie, I’m a complete emotional wreck when I see distressed animals and the images that flow through from rescue pages. I become a blithering idiot and don’t want to see the cruelty. And I told Kerry as much (this was before I launched Dog Mom, but I had started dabbling with printing t-shirts, mugs, tumblers and other items.) Her words to me were “Chines, we all help in different ways and that’s ok! Every little bit helps.”
Since that day, I set out to help Kerry and The WOW Project in whatever way I could without having to deal with the sad parts myself. From assisting at adoption days, to printing the t-shirts and hoodies for the volunteers and designing posters and promotional materials. Whenever Kerry popped by to collect donated items, tshirts, etc she’d inevitably have abandoned puppies or sick or injured dogs that she was taking to the vet in her van.
There have been days when I would take coffee or water out to her as she sat on the grass with a sick puppy, crying because of all the pain and suffering she had seen that day. She is incredible and she has the biggest heart and bravest soul of anyone I know. She is out in the impoverished communities daily, with no thought for her own safety, focused on educating people on how to care for their animals, arranging sterilisations, feeding and administering tick and flea treatments to the animals in need.
She is also the one who rescued by boy, Levi from certain death – You can read our story on the blog here: Life with Levi – and what a story it is.
To show our gratitude for your generosity, every donation of R50 or more will be thanked with a 10% discount voucher for your next Dog Mom order. It’s my way of giving back to you for helping us support The WOW Project and make a difference in the lives of animals in need.
If you’re not in a position to assist financially, as Kerry says, every little bit helps – please spread the word by sharing this with your network and let’s all do something small to “Make a difference, one animal at a time.”
